Djúpalónssandur

Djúpalónssandur is a black pebble beach in Snæfellsjökull National Park, on the western tip of the peninsula. A short path from the car park winds down through lava formations to the shore, where the rusty remains of the British trawler Epine GY7, wrecked here in 1948, still lie among the pebbles.

On the way down are four old lifting stones that fishermen once used to test their strength. The waves on this beach are strong and can run far up the shore, so keep well back from the water. From the hotel it is about an hour by car around the tip of the peninsula.
